Breaking News: Zhejiang Lab and AAAS Create Science Partner Journal "Intelligent Computing"
Date: 2021-11-16
On the morning of November 16, China local time, a special signing ceremony between Zhejiang Lab and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) was held at the Nanhu headquarters of Zhejiang Lab. Via a video conference connecting Hangzhou and Washington, D.C., the two parties signed a cooperation agreement to create a Science Partner Journal (SPJ) named Intelligent Computing. Professor ZHU Shiqiang, President of Zhejiang Lab, and Mr. Bill Moran, publisher of the Science family of journals, signed the agreement.
The journal Intelligent Computing will focus on research across three fields, including computing for intelligence, computing by intelligence, and scientific findings based on intelligence, data, and computing methodologies. It aims to build an open communication and cooperation platform for global science and technology professionals in the field of intelligent computing. It is interested in presenting the latest research outcomes and technological breakthroughs in order to boost the development of intelligent computing science and technology.
At the signing ceremony, President ZHU Shiqiang described intelligent computing as a primary booster to the development of AI. He shared that Zhejiang Lab is endeavoring to develop theoretical, technical, and standards systems relevant to intelligent computing, so as to meet the needs of integrating cyber, physical, and social systems. This requires the joint efforts of scientists in related fields around the world. As a Science Partner Journal co-founded with AAAS, Intelligent Computing will be an academic exchange platform for global scientists in intelligent computing. Scientists will work together to address challenges concerning computational power, energy consumption, security and trustworthiness, and intelligence levels, exploring the possibilities of sustainable development.
Mr. Bill Moran said that AAAS highly valued the cooperation with Zhejiang Lab. Based on a common goal of promoting scientific progress with intelligent computing, the two parties co-organized the Innovation Forum on Intelligent Computing and co-founded this Science Partner Journal. The efforts of the two parties will accelerate the development of intelligent computing, and offer a platform for global scientists in the field to share cutting-edge achievements and create an intelligent era for the future.
The journal is scheduled to have its submission system and SPJ website completed by the end of 2021. The submission system will be launched in January 2022 to accept manuscripts.
Founded in 1848, AAAS is the world's largest multidisciplinary community of scientific and engineering societies. It is also a leading publisher of the Science family of journals. In collaboration with international research institutions, foundations, sponsors, and societies, its Science Partner Journal program provides technical and publishing support to top international research institutions.
Zhejiang Lab, with its primary research focus on future-oriented intelligent computing, was authorized to lead the development of the Zhejiang Provincial Laboratory for Intelligent Science and Technology in July 2020. The Lab has made integrated research plans in areas including intelligent computing theories and methods, hardware systems, software platforms, standards and specifications. In 2021, the Lab established the Research Center for Intelligent Supercomputing and the Research Center for Advanced Computing Systems. A project to create an intelligent computing data reactor was also started in the same year. The Lab has now achieved milestone outcomes in major research fields such as brain-like computing, AI platforms, human-like intelligent perception, and wide-area collaborative computing. An intelligent computing system integrating cyber, physical, and social systems has since taken shape.
