AI and steel bodies make up the most common robots in our daily life. In order to better and more comprehensively understand and serve the human society and realize the application of humanoid robots, the breakthrough is still desired in many key generic technologies regarding the robotics.

On February 28, Zhejiang Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Robotics was officially inaugurated at Zhejiang Lab, which was jointly established by Hangzhou Shenhao Technology Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Guozi Robotics Co., Ltd. under the leadership of ZJ Lab. How to make robots "more intelligent"? What key generic technologies should be broken through? These are issues to be addressed by the Center. ZHU Shiqiang, President of ZJ Lab; SUN Lining, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, and GU Jianjun, Director of the Research Center for Intelligent Robotics of ZJ Lab were present at the ceremony.

The Center, as an important constitution of the innovation system in Zhejiang Province, is expected to promote industrial technological progress and the improvement of core competence by virtue of fostering and enhancing the capacity for independent innovation. The Center was mainly established to make breakthroughs in the key generic technologies for intelligent robotics, build a comprehensive test platform, and accelerate the industrial application of outcomes.

At the ceremony, the first Academic Committee of Zhejiang Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Robotics was officially established, with President ZHU Shiqiang as the director of the Committee, SUN Lining and GU Jianjun as deputy directors of the Committee and experts and scholars from Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, ZJ Lab, and other domestic well-known universities and research institutions as members.

"The Center should make great efforts in the field of intelligence and embodies the intelligence features at all levels, including environmental perception, scene understanding, intelligent understanding and assignment of tasks, autonomous planning, autonomous operation, and friendly and intelligent human-computer interaction. In addition to intelligence, the Center must also be product-oriented and practical scenario-guided, and make a layout for future applications." In his speech, President ZHU Shiqiang expressed the hope that the Center, based on national demands and following the greater synergy, wider opening-up and broader vision, will make plans for future development, further strengthen the transformation of achievements, and deliver landmark scientific research achievements, to serve the development of robot technology and industry in Zhejiang Province, and empower the technological progress of the robot industry.

After the ceremony, YANG Guilin, Vice President of Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, CAS, XIONG Rong, Professor of Zhejiang University, WANG Hesheng, Professor of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and SONG Wei, a Research Specialist of ZJ Lab, made profound academic reports on collaborative robots, the positioning technology of intelligent mobile robot, vision-based robot positioning, navigation and control, and intelligent robot cloud brain.
