AI-Empowered Astronomy
for Open Science

As one of the best astronomical observing sites currently identified across China, Lenghu in Qinghai Province has been selected as the site for the 14.5-meter optical-infrared telescope, with strong support and significant attention from the local government of Haixi Prefecture. In the future, Lenghu will be developed into a world-class site for astronomical observations.

In response to the national strategic directive in science and technology ― and with the aim of further enhancing the international visibility and influence of Lenghu, Qinghai, while showcasing the 14.5-meter optical-infrared telescope and other key astronomical facilities of China to both domestic and international communities ― the National Astronomical Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC) and the Zhejiang Laboratory will jointly organize the 2nd conference of “AI-Empowered Astronomy for Open Science” on August 3rd–7th, 2026, in Delingha, Qinghai Province, China.

The conference will serve as a platform for in-depth exchange and discussion centered on the following themes: Astronomy (and related major scientific projects) in the era of AI; development of ground-based optical astronomy; time-domain astronomy; next-generation large-scale astronomical surveys; the Milky Way and exoplanets; extragalactic astronomy and cosmology.

This conference will also provide a comprehensive overview of the key facilities and ongoing projects of astronomy at Lenghu, and will feature presentations by leading experts from both China and abroad, who will introduce flagship large telescopes and world-renowned astronomical observatories, while engaging in thematic discussions focused on cutting-edge scientific and technological advancements. Additionally, a site visit to Lenghu will be organized for conference attendees during the event.
