The facility can manipulate the spin of alkali metal atoms and turn it into the state of spin-exchange relaxation-free (SERF) to greatly increase the relaxation time of the spin and therefore enable the measurement of extremely weak magnetic fields through the detection of Larmor Precession angles. The facility can be used to support studies such as passive non-destructive detection of magnetic fields from the brain and the heart (for medicine and brain sciences), measurement of electric dipole moments (for basic science research), and analysis of extremely weak magnetism in deep-space and deep-earth materials.
