How is Zhejiang Lab working to build a high-energy innovation engine? What has it achieved to support the development of digital economy? On June 19, Zhejiang Daily published an article in the section of “Important News”. The article, published in the column of “Building Important Platforms” and entitled “Zhejiang Lab Builds an Innovation Hub for Digital Economy through Interdisciplinary Integration and Multi-field Projects,” gives a detailed explanation of the Lab’s expectations and plans in the field of digital economy, as well as the innovative application of cutting-edge technologies in areas such as intelligent transportation and intelligent healthcare.
According to Zhu Shiqiang, President of Zhejiang Lab, the Lab is fully starting its innovation engine to support the construction of Zhejiang’s #1 Digital Economy Project and build an innovation hub for digital economy. Currently, the Lab has made research plans in important areas such as intelligent transportation, intelligent healthcare and elderly care, intelligent manufacturing, digital governments, intelligent finance, and future communities. In each of these areas, the Lab has established a special working group headed by leaders at the Lab, so as to integrate interdisciplinary resources for innovation and connect to government and business needs.
“This is a multi-center intelligent medical information platform developed and built by us. With technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data, the platform can find and obtain useful information from the huge amount of medical data “sleeping” in different medical institutions, as a way to support highly sophisticated medical research and clinical practice. In addition, it also has big potential for industrialization in areas such as new drug research, chronic disease treatment, and intelligent elderly care,” said Li Jinsong, Director at the Zhejiang Lab Research Center for Healthcare Data Science. At present, the platform can access clinical data from a number of large Grade-A Tertiary hospitals. It enables the sharing and in-depth utilization of multi-center clinical data while ensuring the security of patients’ data and keeping the original data unmoved.
In response to the urgent need for intelligent clinical equipment, Zhejiang Lab has developed a multimode fiber-optic confocal imaging device that enables precision to the micron scale. Next, the device will be incorporated into an ultra-fine electronic endoscope. “This will allow doctors to perform optical biopsies on patients, improve the accuracy and efficiency of cancer detection, and provide technical support for a range of advanced treatments,” said Yang Qing, Deputy Director at the Zhejiang Lab Research Center for Intelligent Sensing. Multimode fiber-optic confocal imaging can also be applied to the field of brain science to achieve precise stimulation and imaging of neurons, opening a new path for optogenetics.
Zhejiang Lab has also started cooperation with other areas in Zhejiang to boost the integration of digital economy into regional development and innovation. The construction of the New-Generation AI Development Experimental Zone and the Universal Digital Governance Experimental Zone in Deqing has been supported by the Lab’s innovation teams in multiple disciplines. Aiming to achieve breakthroughs in major generic technologies and core technologies, the Lab has planned to build large technology infrastructure and create an underlying innovation ecosystem for digital economy. At the end of 2019, the Lab launched the Dubhe AI Open Source Platform, which can facilitate the construction of an innovation ecosystem for the positive and efficient development of AI technologies.
