On the morning of January 20, 2020, after the last steel box girder was hoisted onto the roof, the construction team for the first phase of Zhejiang Lab’s new campus completed the frame structure of the main building. So far, 50% of the entire project has been finished.
The 100-hectare new campus of Zhejiang Lab is located in the Nanhu Science Center of Yuhang District, which is the central area of the West Hangzhou Scientific Innovation Corridor. The first phase of the campus covers a site area of 43 hectares, with a floor area of about 614,000 square meters. The land is divided into two parts, with the western part comprising the research area, and the eastern part for residential purposes.
At present, except for the Building of Research Facilities, the construction team has completed the frame structures of most buildings on the campus. According to Wang Jiangyong, Construction Director for Zhejiang Lab’s new campus and Nanhu Town, with the joint efforts of project management staff and more than 2,800 workers, the overall structure of the first phase is expected to be completed by the end of April of this year, and the entire project is due for completion by the end of October. “Although we have a tight schedule, we will ensure the quality of the project and try our best to create buildings of top quality, making sure that the first phase of the campus will be put into service by the end of this year,” said Wang.
“The new campus project means a lot to us. We are committed to building a world-class center for basic research, as well as an intelligent, green, and low-carbon example for future communities. We want to attract scientists from all over the world to work at our lab,” said Li Biqing, Assistant to Directors and Head of the Infrastructure Office at Zhejiang Lab.
